It is planned that the expansion of the Goa Airport will take the airport into the list of the largest airports in India. The Indian Air Force bombarded the GOI Airport during the annexation of Goa. It is connected to the airport by the four-lane National Highway 354 and also to the rest of India and Central Asia And is ranked the 6th-best regional airport in India and Central Asia by Skytrax for 2019 and 2020.

Over the course of the fiscal year 2017-2018, the airport grew at the 3rd fastest rate in India. It is awarded by Airports Council International as the world's best airport, the airport will serve 2 million to 5 million passengers annually in 2020. It also serves as a hub for both domestic and international cargo movements.

Among the airport's facilities are 30 check-in counters, four X-ray scanners, 26 immigration counters, 10 customs counters, 12 security check booths, and four conveyor belts. There is an in-line X-ray baggage inspection system and conveyor system at the terminal, constructed with glass and steel.

The Sri Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport was opened in 1930 and has the code ATQ. However, AAI has created a demand for new airports in India with greater passenger handling capacity in order to meet the demands of air travelers. There is a high level of maintenance at all 34 international airports which are currently serving India.
